Louise D'Amico
My name is Louise D’Amico. I am a visual artist that identifies as a person with an intellectual disability. This year, I am proud to have moved to the City of Port Phillip, and to be working in the Bayside City Council area. When I am producing art, I work from home at the kitchen table. My preferred creative mediums are Linocut, Printmaking, Painting, and Drawing. As well as these, I have recently begun Gell Plate Printmaking.
My motivation for my work is to express myself through my creative practice. A recurring theme in my artworks are flowers and floral designs. I have a great love for nature and this love comes across when I create. Creating art has allowed me to explore my love of all flowers; their colours, shapes and their unique nature. Specifically, I do this through the mediums of drawing and printmaking (monotypes). My work tells a vibrant, colourful and bold story about my love of flowers and how they are all different and yet similar to humans and neurodivergent people like myself.
I am passionate about designing and drawing artwork and producing works that I then can share with my community. I also run all ability workshops in my community. I have attended and been involved in various solo and group exhibitions and network events, this has enabled me to focus on developing my skills and designs.
I love sharing my creativity and message with likeminded passionate people and people who are just learning about art. It instils a sense of pride in myself and most significantly allows me to help people with their own practice. Having my work on social medica helps to reach people who are unable to see in person my work and expand my network. It’s important to share my journey and understanding, knowledge, skills and awareness and inclusion on disability.
